John F. Kennedy Middle School in Plantsville announced the names of its March students of the month. Teachers nominated these students for their academic performance, exemplary citizenship, and/or participation in extracurricular activities.

Sixth grade students of the month are Karter Henriksen, Reilly Jarvis, Samantha Sullivan, Taylor Sullivan and Caroline Wallberg.

Karter, who always does his best, is a kind-hearted young man and an active participant in all of his academic classes. An honor roll student, he is a member of the book club, the Lego League, Team Awareness and the band. Karter plays town football and volunteers for social services at the food pantry and through the Boy Scouts. Outside of school, he enjoys reading and playing with friends.

Reilly works well with his peers and is willing to assume the role of leadership. He is always prepared for tests and quizzes, and he is respected with all whom he comes in contact. An honor roll student, Reilly is a member of the bowling club, the drama club, the band, Unified Theater and Voices of Thunder. He also plays town football, baseball and basketball. Reilly is helpful at home and at the football and baseball fields where he helps his father pick up trash. He also assists his grandparents with shoveling their driveway. Reilly enjoys playing with his brothers and friends in his time away from school.

Samantha and Taylor are classroom leaders. They are hardworking students who are always prepared and eager to participate in classroom discussions. They are honor roll students and members of the Gingerbread House competition, Junior Next Steps and the orchestra. Samantha and Taylor play travel softball and basketball, and they enjoy traveling and singing.

Caroline (Unified Arts) is a responsible student and a hard worker. She is always prepared for class. An active participant, she demonstrates a willingness to provide support and volunteer for classroom tasks. An honor roll student, Caroline is a member of Homework Club and the orchestra. An alter server at her church, she enjoys lessons at a dance academy and singing.

Seventh grade students of the month are Trevor Kushman, Margaret “Maggie” Ritchie, Maliah Ryan and Evan Watson.

Trevor is a responsible student who is considerate of his classmates. He works well with others and is supportive and respectful to all. An honor roll student, he plays town baseball and helps his dad with spring cleaning at the playing field. Trevor enjoys hanging out with his brother during his free time.

Maggie is a friendly, compassionate student who works well with others. Mature and inquisitive, she is a motivated self-starter who demonstrates leadership qualities. An honor roll student and a member of the cross country team, Maggie plays town basketball. She enjoys painting, drawing and playing with her pets in her free time.

Maliah is an excellent student, well liked, and an all-around good person who gives her best one hundred percent of the time. An honor roll student, she is a member of the Builder’s Club, the Code Academy, NJHS, the orchestra, writer’s club and MATHCOUNTS. Maliah plays town softball, soccer and basketball. As a volunteer, she works for the PES Halloween party, childcare at her church, and as a group leader for the VBS during the summer. In her free time, she likes to read, write, draw, bake and play the violin.

Evan (Unified Arts) always comes to class with a smile, and he likes to add fun to his learning. Always prepared, he is willing to learn new ways and new ideas. Evan is very respectful, and gets along well with both his teachers and his peers. He is an honor roll student and a member of the drama club, the chorus and the stock market club. He swims for the YMCA and volunteers at an animal shelter. In his free time he plays the piano and does hip-hop dancing.

Eighth grade students of the month are Skylar Longley, Evelyn Micacci, Vincent Spizzoucco (World Language) and Gianna Wadowski.

Skylar is a polite and respectful student who is conscientious and works well with others. She is an active participant in her classes where she challenges herself and displays outstanding critical thinking skills. An honor roll student, Skylar is a member of the Artist Workshop, the American Red Cross Club, the yearbook and the band. She serves as a volunteer at blood drives and she is active in her church’s youth ministry groups. Skylar also enjoys taking art classes.

Evelyn is a hardworking, conscientious student who is kind, thoughtful and respectful to all. She is an active participant in all her classes and she works well in groups. Evelyn is a member of the drama club, Con Brio, the honor roll, the newspaper club, the orchestra and the swing choir. She also takes dance lessons.

Vincent is diligent in all that he does, and he helps everyone in need. He is always willing to participate and to practice using his language skills. Vincent is a member of the American Red Cross Club, the band, the honor roll, Jr. Next Steps, library volunteers and NJHS. He plays town basketball and town and travel baseball. Vincent volunteers for spring and fall cleanup at his playing field and he enjoys sports as his out of school hobby.

Gianna is a hardworking student who strives daily to achieve academic success. Throughout each day she assists her peers and serves as a role model for her team. An honor roll student, she is a member of the color guard, the drama club, NJHS, Team Awareness, peer advocates, Unified Theater, the band and the volleyball team. Gianna swims for the YMCA team, and she volunteers at Camp Invention, STEPS youth council and the teen advisory board at the Southington library. She is also a counselor in training at Strong Elementary School. Gianna’s favorite hobbies are running and swimming.
